Thomas Johnson - Founder |
In 1993, with a mere $20.00 in his pocket, Thomas Johnson arrived in this country from Ghana in West Africa where for several years he trained less fortunate young men in making cabinets, furniture, and other wood products. Through hard work, persistence, and in his words, “with God’s inspiration, guidance, and support,” Thomas created, in a few short years, a thriving world-class home and office furniture manufacturing company. Thomas says that there are a few key guiding principles that underlie his success: Deference to God; Seeing and treating clients as friends |
| and as if they were he; Being one with who he is and all he does; Attempting always to translate and transform what he does to reflect the image of God.
Before coming to America, Thomas was a scholarship student at the prestigious woodworking institute in Rimini, Italy. There he was given the opportunity to work under the tutelage of world-renowned furniture maker, Professor Caldari. Thomas has passed on the vast knowledge and experience he has gained to his highly skilled shop craftsmen.
The Thomas A Johnson Furniture Company is housed in a 75,000 sq. ft. historic warehouse on the James River in Lynchburg, Virginia. Much of the work is done by hand using traditional machinery, tools and methods such as: dowel, mortise, tongue and groove construction, and precision hand-sanding and hand rubbed finished. Only the finest hardwoods and finishing products are used in production.
The success of the Thomas Johnson Company can be attributed to the attention given to detail, Thomas’ personal supervision of every project, and the creation of a product of fine quality and durability priced comparatively to that of mass-produced items.
We look forward to meeting you to discuss your needs and anticipate a relationship of mutual benefit.
Cordially,
Thomas Johnson
